Until a couple of years before the parcel, Secondary and Higher the University of Bombay controlled Secondary Education in the Province of Sindh. The University of Sindh was secured in April 1947 at Karachi and later on Secondary Education was exchanged to it.
In 1950, by the declaration of the Central Legislative Act No. XVI of 1950. The Board of Secondary Education Karachi was created in the year 1950. In this manner the control of Secondary Education was given over to the Board of Secondary Education Karachi. Mr. Sultan Mohyuddin was named its first President.
At first the Board began working in a three lives ground carpet of a private house at Fatima Jinnah Colony, off Jamshed Road , with a skeleton staff of 3 or 4 persons just.
The law of 1972 was revised by an Act No. 23 of 1972 & No. 10 of 1974, whereby Board Of Secondary Education Karachi was bifurcated into two Boards, Board of Secondary Education Karachi & Board of Intermediate Education Karachi. The Board Of Secondary Education Karachi stayed in the old premises inasmuch as the BIE was housed in the Hostel Building of National Youth Center. Mr. Rustom V. Divecha was named as first Chairman of the Board Of Secondary Education Karachi . The two Boards began working independently from first. February, 1974.the plan for the grant of the Poverty-cum-Merit Scholarship was introduced.national Youth Center was renamed as Bakhtiari Youth Center in distinguishment of the administrations generally Q.h.k.bakhtiari, ex-director of the Board.a report of specialists advisory group on the Causes of Student Unrest and Remedial Measures was prepared.a Research Report on the improvement of General Science Curriculum at the Secondary Level in Pakistan (1947-73) was distributed.
The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi is an analyzing body as well as answerable for keeping up and controlling the standard of training and different exercises, which guarantee physical, good and profound improvement of the school people.
Leading group of Intermediate Education Karachi was created as independent element in 1974 through the "Sindh Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education correction act No. 20 of 1973.
This Board has the ability to sort out, direct, create and control Intermediate Education. The controlling Authority of the Board is the Governor of Sindh or his chosen one.
